Biofilters
In October 2005, Furbish Company installed the first Naturaire living wall biofilter in the United States. Replacing high-tech, energy consumptive air filtration systems, living walls combine low technology with dramatic visual appeal to effectively enhance indoor air quality. These biofilters, developed by Air Quality Solutions in Guelph, Ontario, harness the natural phytoremediation capabilities of tropical houseplants to effectively remove common airborne pollutants. By cleansing the existing indoor air, they reduce the required volume of outdoor air exchanges thereby reducing heating and cooling loads as well.
